Reuters reports that the military council has approved the repatriation of 180,000 Rohingya refugees from Myanmar to Bangladesh.
It is said that they are part of the 800,000 Rohingya refugees that the Bangladesh government sent to Myanmar in six batches between 2018 and 2020.
Another 70,000 are still being finalized, and photos and detailed evidence are still being reviewed, he said.
The statement said Myanmar has pledged to accelerate the verification process for the remaining 550,000 names out of 800,000.
The statement was made during a meeting between top leaders of the two countries at the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Economic and Technological Cooperation Summit and related meetings held in Bangkok, Thailand, the news agency reported.
