Construction of flood control infrastructure in the Serang River Basin Area (DAS), Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, has been 100 percent completed.
PTPP Corporate Secretary Joko Raharjo in an official statement in Jakarta, Monday, said that with the completion of one of these national strategic projects, it is hoped that it can protect important areas such as Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA), productive agricultural land, and residential areas from the threat of flooding with a total area coverage of 1,428 ha.
With a contract value of IDR 295 billion sourced from the 2020-2023 State Budget, this project was completed in 1,202 days, namely from September 16, 2020 to December 31, 2023.
"This project not only offers flood control solutions, but also provides various additional benefits for the community, ranging from increasing agricultural productivity to developing local tourism potential," said Joko.
Furthermore, Joko explained that this project brings three main benefits that have a significant impact on the community.
First, a significant reduction in the inundation area. Before the project began, flooding often disrupted residents' activities and limited access to YIA Airport.
"Now, thanks to an effective control system, flood-prone areas have been minimized, thereby increasing connectivity and security in the area," he said.
Second, increasing agricultural productivity. Previously, farmers could only harvest 1-2 times per year due to the land often being flooded.
