The UAE strongly condemned the armed attacks on the Zamzam and Abu Shouk camps near El Fasher in Darfur, as well as on relief teams and personnel operating in the area.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement: "We strongly condemn all acts of violence against humanitarian workers who dedicate their lives to serving those in need."
She stressed that targeting relief workers constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which guarantees the protection of medical personnel and relief and rescue teams. She emphasized the importance of respecting and protecting them and ensuring that they are not targets in conflicts.
The Ministry called on all parties that show no regard for the extent of the suffering endured by the Sudanese people to respect their obligations under international law, the Jeddah Declaration, and the mechanisms of the "Allied to Promote Life-Saving and Peace in Sudan" platform. It also called on the need to take immediate steps to protect civilians and facilitate the urgent entry of humanitarian aid by all available means and without any obstacles.
The ministry stressed that "no party has the right to obstruct the delivery of life-saving aid, noting that the use of relief work and humanitarian aid as a weapon is condemned. In this context, the UAE calls on the United Nations to prevent either party to the conflict from exploiting humanitarian aid for military or political purposes."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reiterated the UAE's position calling for a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the need for an immediate ceasefire, and the UAE's unwavering commitment to supporting efforts to address this catastrophic crisis and to working collectively with regional and international partners to ensure stability and peace for the Sudanese people.
