Threads moves domain to Threads.com and introduces a number of new features

Meta's social media platform and X competitor, Threads, has officially moved its domain from Threads.net to Threads.com, while also introducing a number of quality improvements to the Threads website, including releasing new features.

As reported by Tech Crunch on Sunday, Meta initially launched this new social media application in July 2023 using the .net domain, because at that time the .com domain was owned by a Sequoia-backed Slack alternative startup. The startup was then sold to Shopify last year.

In September 2024, Meta acquired the Threads.com domain and began redirecting Threads.com URLs to Threads.net. Starting today, Meta explains that users will no longer be redirected from .com to .net, but vice versa.
