The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) is emphasizing the acceleration of services and the simplification of fish quarantine regulations that it continues to strive for, to protect Indonesia's biological resources, while increasing the competitiveness of Indonesian fishery products.
Head of Barantin Sahat Manaor Panggabean stated that Indonesia has the largest marine biodiversity wealth in the world and this position also makes it vulnerable to the threat of quarantine fish pests and diseases (HPIK).
"The acceleration of services and simplification of regulations must still prioritize caution to ensure the health of commodities, so that our natural biological resources are protected. And SOPs (standard operating procedures) are needed to standardize services throughout Indonesia," said Sahat, in Bandung, West Java, Thursday evening.
One of the efforts to standardize SOPs was carried out with the Barantin Technical Meeting themed Harmonization of Operational Policies and Law Enforcement in the Framework of Accelerating Fish Quarantine Services, in Bandung on 7-9 May 2025.
This, said Sahat, aims to transform the quarantine system to be more efficient, adaptive, and competitive in global trade, in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto's direction.
"The harmonization of operational policies and fish quarantine law enforcement is a form of Barantin's efforts to accelerate services. In accordance with the President's direction last month, accelerate services and simplify regulations," said Sahat.
