 Pediatrician and Pediatric Respirology Consultant, FKUI RSCM, dr. Nastiti Kaswandani Sp.A(K) said that giving BCG vaccine to children, especially newborns, is very important in preventing severe tuberculosis.

"BCG immunization is still the most important immunization to prevent tuberculosis and is a mandatory immunization implemented in countries with high TB ​​rates, including Indonesia, India, and the Philippines," he said in an interview with ANTARA at the IDAI Building.

Nastiti said that from studies conducted over decades, BCG vaccination in children in countries with high TB ​​rates is effective in preventing severe TB diseases such as TB in the meninges, or miliary TB which can cause shortness of breath and is life-threatening and preventing TB from attacking the intestines or liver.
