Psychiatric specialist dr. Tiur Sihombing, Sp.KJ.,Subsp.Ger(K) said that "sleep hygiene" or habits to support quality sleep can be one way applied to the elderly (elderly) so that they do not suffer from Alzheimer's dementia.
Creating a sleep pattern through sleep hygiene for the elderly is considered to be able to provide sufficient rest and maintain brain function so that it can reduce one factor that causes Alzheimer's dementia, especially for those over 60 years of age.
"In terms of sleep, it can be changed to prevent (Alzheimer's), because the elderly's sleep patterns tend to be turned upside down. Because the elderly do sleep for short periods but ultimately make it difficult to sleep at night. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure sleep hygiene in order to create a proper sleep pattern," said Dr. Tiur in a webinar organized by the Ministry of Health in commemoration of National Elderly Day (HLUN) 2025 which was attended.
