Berrettini retires, Ruud advances to last 16 in Rome.

2025 Madrid Open champion Casper Ruud led the match against 29th seed Matteo Berrettini 7-5, 2-0 in the third round of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome, Monday (12/5) evening local time or when Berrettini retired due to injury.

In Madrid, Berrettini retired from his third-round match against Jack Draper after one set due to an abdominal injury.

"I feel very sorry for him because this is his home, his home Masters 1000," said Ruud, who signed for the camera with the words "Sorry Matteo. Get well soon!", as broadcast by the ATP.

On the penultimate point against Ruud, Berrettini showed his quick reaction. But on the next two points, something physically went wrong with the 29-year-old.
