Four sets played, four sets won by Jannik Sinner who proved his steady form after a three-month absence from competition as he returned to the tour at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia.
The Italian defeated Dutchman Jesper de Jong 6-4, 6-2 on Monday (12/5) local time to advance to the last 16 of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome.
"It was a completely different match from the first one, the conditions were different," Sinner was quoted as saying on the ATP's official website on Tuesday.
In front of a spirited Italian crowd at Campo Centrale, Sinner squandered a break lead in the first set but responded quickly to advance.
The world number one then came back in the second set against De Jong, who injured his right wrist when he slipped at 1-3, 40/15 in the second set.
Sinner helped De Jong to his feet before he handed the 24-year-old a towel.
