BRIN: Increase in political party funds must be accompanied by the implementation of penalties

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)'s Chief Expert Researcher, Siti Zuhro, assessed that the addition of financial assistance funds for political parties (parpol) from the state revenue and spending budget (APBN) must be accompanied by the implementation of penalties for political parties that misappropriate funds.

"Perhaps before there is funding, it must be formulated seriously, with all the penalties that may be applied or set for naughty parties," said Siti at the parliament complex, Senayan.

Siti Zuhro assessed that penalties against political parties that misappropriate these funds must include firm and severe sanctions so that political parties do not use them as a political "meat-feeder".

"Say whoever steals money for the party will be punished very seriously. So, there is a clause that states that. If not, then it will be another feast, another feast," he said.

He hopes that the existence of these regulations will serve as a reminder for political parties to always be vigilant in managing these funds in order to optimize party work.

"So, we have been given a warning, if you corrupt this money, it will be a crime and your party will be disqualified," he said.

He is optimistic that the additional financial assistance can be effective in preventing corrupt practices that are often misused to support political party operations.
