Worldcoin's iris scanning technology activities, which were launched in 2023, have been suspended in other countries outside Indonesia, following debates over data security and privacy.
As reported by Coinpedia countries such as Kenya, Hong Kong, Portugal, and Spain are concerned about the misuse of biometric data and have suspended Worldcoin activities.
Kenya became one of the first countries to suspend Worldcoin activities in mid-2023, following concerns about data collection practices and potential exploitation.
A similar step was also taken by Hong Kong in May 2024, where authorities found violations of privacy laws in the method of collecting iris and facial data.
