Internal medicine specialist at Cipto Mangunkusumo Kencana Hospital, Dr. dr Hasan Maulahela Sp.PD-KGEH, said that Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) or intestinal inflammation can be cured as long as it is continuously monitored for factors that trigger recurrence.
"In general, the target for IBD is what we call remission. Remission, in layman's terms, is a total recovery. But it usually requires maintenance, still," he said in an online discussion attended in Jakarta, Monday.
Hasan said, IBD not only attacks the intestines, but can also attack other organs such as joints, therefore IBD needs to be cured optimally and avoid factors that trigger recurrence.
