Health experts say isotonic drinks are highly recommended

In recent years, an active lifestyle has become part of the identity of modern society, both in daily activities indoors and outdoors, as well as sports activities.

But unfortunately, according to health expert Dr. Monica Harvriza Sp.KO, this increasing trend of active living is not balanced with public understanding of electrolyte needs during activities and sweating.

"In normal daily activities, the body can lose significant amounts of electrolytes," said the Sports Medicine Specialist in his statement in Jakarta, Thursday.

Citing research from the American College of Sports Medicine (2021), he explained that activities such as working in an office can cause electrolyte loss of around 300–400 mg.

Light intensity physical activity can cause the loss of 500–800 mg of electrolytes, while heavy intensity physical activity can even reach 1,200–2,000 mg.
