Sleeping position affects back health and overall spinal alignment.
There is a close correlation between spinal health and the quality of one's sleep, said senior consultant spine surgeon at SIMS Hospital in Chennai, Dr Vignesh Jayabalan, as quoted by the Hindustan Times , Monday (12/5).
"How important is your sleeping position, not only does it affect how you feel when you wake up, but also in limiting and slowing the progression of certain spinal conditions such as disc herniations, spinal arthritis and chronic low back pain," he said.
Sleeping on your back is one of the healthy sleeping positions, where in this position gravity helps distribute body weight evenly without causing much pressure on the back.
