In a statement on Wednesday, she explained that Louisiana Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and detention center officials did not allow Khalil to meet his family members or hold his newborn son due to "security concerns."

The statement added that these concerns relate to visitation rules that prohibit direct contact with a mother and her newborn child in an unsafe part of the center.

He stated that the center's authorities ignored the Palestinian student's lawyer's objections and reminders that the contact visits were in accordance with federal law.

On March 8, US authorities arrested Khalil, who led solidarity protests at Columbia University last year, denouncing the genocide being committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip.

Beginning in March, the United States revoked the visas and legal status of more than 1,000 students, many of whom filed lawsuits against President Donald Trump's administration over the revocations, and temporary orders were issued to restore the legal status of a few of them.

Protests in support of Palestine, which began at Columbia University, spread to more than 50 universities across the country, and police detained more than 3,100 people, most of them students and faculty members.

With full American support, Israel has been committing genocidal crimes in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 175,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands displaced.
