In Turkish: Pakistani Prime Minister thanks Erdogan for Türkiye's support amid escalation with India

In a Turkish-language post on his X account following a phone call between the two sides, Sharif affirmed Pakistan's gratitude for Turkey's support, expressing his appreciation for Turkish citizens' prayers for the Pakistani victims of the recent escalation with India.

Sharif explained that he briefed the Turkish president on the latest developments in the military situation, commending Ankara's efforts to de-escalate tensions and maintain peace in South Asia, and expressing his country's appreciation for Turkey's solidarity at this critical juncture.

For its part, the Turkish Presidency's Communications Department reported on Wednesday that Erdogan affirmed during the call his country's readiness to do everything in its power to prevent escalation between India and Pakistan and to continue diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis.

The Turkish president emphasized his country's support for Pakistan's "calm and moderate" policy and considered its proposal for an impartial and transparent international investigation into the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir a sound step. He also expressed Turkey's solidarity with Pakistan, wishing mercy for the victims and a speedy recovery for the injured.

The Indian army announced on Tuesday that it had carried out a military operation against "targets" inside Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. According to the statement, the operation targeted nine sites described as "terrorist." The Pakistani government confirmed that the raids targeted six civilian sites, resulting in the deaths of 31 people and the injury of 57 others.

This escalation follows an armed attack targeting tourists in the town of Pahalgam in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, which left 26 people dead and several others injured.
