Chess players Rian Kapriaga and Dicky Aditya lead the provisional standings of the open category of the 2025 JAPFA FIDE Rated tournament after sweeping three rounds with wins.
"It is still a long way to predict who will be the champion. There could still be shifts in the seven available rounds," said Chairman of the Organizing Committee Henry Hendratno, who is also Secretary General of the Indonesian Chess Association (PB Percasi), quoted from an official statement in Jakarta.
Previously, up to the second round, seven chess players recorded a full two points by scoring two wins from two rounds.
The seven chess players are FM Rian Kapriaga, IM Anjas Novita, IM Arif Abdul Hafiz, Stevaky, CM Fabian Glen Mariano, Muhammad Kamalsyah and Dicky Aditya.
In the third round, Rian Kapriaga and Dicky Aditya rose to the top position after winning full points . Rian played the white pieces successfully to defeat his senior Anjas Novita. While Dicky also controlled the white pieces to win over national chess player Arif Abdul Hafiz.
However, the open category leader is still far from safe from the tournament which will last nine rounds.
Meanwhile, the competition was even tighter when young Indonesian chess stars competed in the challenger category.
A total of 24 young chess players still secured three consecutive wins from the three rounds that have been played.
Of the 24 chess players, three won the same points from the three rounds played, led by WFM Amanda Suci Fitriani who won over Tahjudin Noor.
