New escalation: Israeli raids target large areas in Lebanon

According to the official Lebanese National News Agency, Israeli warplanes launched four consecutive raids, starting after midnight, on the outskirts of the town of Shamshtar, towards the town of Taraya, west of Baalbek in the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon.

On Thursday evening, the Israeli occupation army launched airstrikes on several areas in southern Lebanon, in a new violation of the ceasefire agreement between the two sides.

The army said in a statement: "The air force launched raids a short while ago targeting several military sites and infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah across Lebanon."

He claimed that "among the targeted targets was an infrastructure containing weapons in the Sidon area, which Hezbollah has recently been attempting to rebuild after being bombed in the past."

The army claimed that it "targeted Hezbollah military sites in southern Lebanon that contained missile launchers."

The official Lebanese National News Agency reported that "Israeli warplanes targeted the Rayhan Hills in the Jezzine district, the Jabour area in Kfarhouna, and the Qaqa'iyat al-Snobar area in the south of the country."

The agency noted that it had recorded intensive Israeli warplane flights throughout the southern skies, along with silent drones hovering over the Zahrani area.

This escalation comes about an hour after a person was killed by Israeli occupation forces in the town of Kfar Kila in southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, without providing further details.

The Lebanese news agency reported that a number of Kfar Kela residents held a protest on Thursday evening, denouncing the continued firing of live ammunition by the Israeli occupation forces on civilians inside the town.

Israeli warplanes also intensified their flights on Thursday evening, flying at low altitudes over various southern regions, particularly the skies over Tyre and Bint Jbeil, and reaching Zahrani and Sidon, according to the same agency.

On Thursday, another Lebanese citizen was killed in an Israeli drone strike on the Haraj Ali al-Taher area in the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, south of the country.

This is the second time Israel has launched significant airstrikes on Lebanon within a week, following similar raids on May 22.

On October 8, 2023, Israel launched an aggression against Lebanon, which escalated into a full-scale war on September 23, 2024, resulting in more than 4,000 deaths and approximately 17,000 injuries, in addition to the displacement of approximately 1.4 million people.

Despite a ceasefire agreement that went into effect on November 27, Israel committed thousands of violations, resulting in at least 206 deaths and 501 injuries, according to official data.

In defiance of the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli occupation army carried out a partial withdrawal from southern Lebanon, while continuing to occupy five Lebanese hills it captured during the last war.

For decades, Israel has occupied territories in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon, and refuses to withdraw from them and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, along the pre-1967 borders.
