"Trade Instead of Chaos": US Ambassador to Ankara: Investment in Syria Opens

In a post on the X platform, Barak noted that this move came just a week after Trump announced his decision to lift sanctions on Syria.

He added, "The $7 billion energy agreement signed today in Damascus between the United States, Turkey, and Qatar is the first major example of opening a new path for regional partnerships and cooperation."

Barak continued, "Thanks to Trump, Syria is now open for business. Thanks to Qatar and Turkey, the old borders and barriers are disappearing. It's time for trade, not chaos."

On Thursday, Syria and a consortium of international companies signed a $7 billion energy agreement and memorandum of understanding, enabling the generation of 5,000 megawatts of electricity via four gas-fired power plants.

The agreement also includes the construction of a 1,000-megawatt solar power plant in the Wadi al-Rabi' area in southern Syria.

On May 23, the US Treasury Department issued a general license providing "immediate relief" from sanctions on Syria, in line with Trump's decision.
