Pakistan summons Indian chargé d'affaires to protest missile attacks

The ministry said in a statement that Indian missile attacks on Pakistan and the Pakistan-controlled Azad Kashmir region resulted in deaths and injuries.

The statement added that these attacks "constitute a flagrant violation of Pakistan's sovereignty," noting that they contravene the UN Charter, international law, and interstate relations.

The ministry indicated that Islamabad considers the Indian justifications for these attacks "incorrect," affirming its strong rejection of these actions. India was also warned that such attacks threaten peace and stability in the region.

On Tuesday, the Indian army announced the launch of a military operation against targets in Pakistan and the Azad Kashmir region under its control. The Indian army stated that it successfully targeted nine sites it described as "terrorist structures," while the Islamabad administration confirmed that the attacks targeted six civilian sites, resulting in the deaths of 26 people and the injury of 46 others.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani military announced that it shot down five Indian aircraft during the attack, while the Indian government denied the claim.

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated on April 22 following an armed attack targeting tourists in the Pahalgam area of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people and injured others. Indian officials claimed that the attackers "came from Pakistan," while Islamabad accused India of waging a disinformation campaign against it.

Following the attack, India decided to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty on the division of waters and demanded that Pakistani diplomats in New Delhi leave the country within a week.

In response, Pakistan denied the Indian accusations, reduced the number of Indian diplomatic personnel in Islamabad, declared that it would consider any interference in rivers outside the Indus Waters Treaty an "act of war," suspended all trade with India, and closed its airspace to India.
