Residents of Sahnaya and Ashrafieh surrender their weapons as part of an agreement with the Syrian government.

The agency indicated, via its official account on the X platform, that the agreement aims to "restrict the possession of weapons to the state in order to preserve security and civil peace."

Last Saturday, the town of Ashrafieh Sahnaya witnessed a deployment of public security forces as part of government efforts to enhance stability and maintain security, amid escalating warnings of Israeli attempts to exploit the Druze community to interfere in Syrian affairs.

This development coincides with the announcement by Druze leaders and dignitaries on Thursday of their commitment to the unity of Syrian territory and their rejection of any calls for secession or partition, according to a statement issued by the Druze Sheikhdom and other religious authorities and dignitaries.

This was preceded by a similar agreement reached by the Syrian government with the residents of Jaramana, a city in the Damascus countryside, stipulating the surrender of weapons to the state and the strengthening of security, according to a post published by the Damascus Countryside Governorate on its official Telegram channel.

This comes against the backdrop of security tensions witnessed in the Jaramana and Ashrafieh Sahnaya areas last Tuesday and Wednesday, following the spread of an audio recording attributed to a member of the Druze community that included "insults" to the Prophet Muhammad. The recording led to protests and the deaths of civilians and security personnel in attacks launched by armed groups described as "outlaws" and "seeking to sow chaos and incite sedition."

It is noteworthy that the Druze are concentrated in the Suwayda Governorate and Mount Hermon, in addition to the southern suburbs of Damascus, the Quneitra Governorate, and a number of villages in the Idlib Governorate.
