Sevilla players spend the night at training ground after being confronted by fans

Sevilla players were forced to stay overnight at the club's training ground after hundreds of angry supporters blocked their access to the outside of the training complex.

The incident occurred after Sevilla suffered a 2-3 defeat to Celta Vigo in the Spanish League match, which made them sink further to the bottom of the standings.

"Sevilla will report to the authorities the unusual violent attack on employees, players, technical staff and club management upon their arrival at the training complex," the club said in a statement, quoted from Sevilla's official website, Sunday.

"This attack forced Sevilla's first team to stay overnight at the training facility. Sevilla strongly condemns any form of protest involving violence and criminal acts such as those that occurred on Saturday night," he continued.

Around 100 fans gathered in front of Sevilla's training facilities, throwing objects at the team bus and shouting insults at the players and coaching staff.

Some of the more extreme supporters even tried to break into the complex, but were successfully blocked by the police on guard.

The defeat to Celta Vigo left Sevilla 15th in the La Liga standings, just six points above the relegation zone with three games remaining.

Sevilla will host Las Palmas on Tuesday (13/5), in a crucial match to secure their position in the safe zone of the Spanish League.
