Sunderland secured the final promotion ticket to the English Premier League next season after beating Sheffield United 2-1 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Saturday.
The Black Cats have finally returned to the top flight of English football after eight years or since being relegated to the Championship division in 2017, as reported by the official EFL website.
Sunderland fell behind in the first half in the 25th minute. Tyrese Campbell met Gustavo Hamer's low cross and fired past Anthony Patterson.
Sheffield almost doubled their lead in the 34th minute through Harrison Burrows' long-range effort, but it was ruled out after Vinicius de Souza Costa was ruled offside. The score remained 1-0 at half-time.
