Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi underwent emergency surgery for a serious abdominal injury he sustained in the Premier League match against Leicester City on .
The Nigerian suffered the injury in the 88th minute as he tried to meet Anthony Elanga's cross and collided with the post when he was challenged by Leicester's Facundo Buonanotte. The match at the City Ground ended in a 2-2 draw.
"The club can confirm that Taiwo Awoniyi has undergone emergency surgery after sustaining an abdominal injury in the game against Leicester City," the club said in a statement on Forest's official website.
