Eyewitnesses said the house was inhabited at the time of the demolition. According to the Palestine Liberation Organization's Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, the Israeli occupation army demolished 152 Palestinian structures and homes in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, during April.
Israel is intensifying its home demolitions as part of its efforts to annex the West Bank, displacing Palestinians and expanding settlements, which the international community considers "illegal" in the occupied territories. These policies are hampering efforts to achieve a two-state solution in accordance with international resolutions.
In another development, Israeli occupation forces continue to demolish homes in the Nour Shams camp, east of Tulkarm, as the assault on the camp continues for the 93rd day. The WAFA news agency reported that Israeli bulldozers are continuing to demolish residential buildings in the al-Jami' neighborhood, amidst the sound of massive explosions and the imposition of a tight siege on the area.
This escalation comes in implementation of the occupation's plan to demolish 106 homes and buildings in the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps, a portion of which began last week. Since the start of the offensive, occupation bulldozers have demolished 15 buildings, including apartments, and blown up other homes after forcibly evacuating their residents.
Death of a former Palestinian prisoner
In a separate development, two Palestinian prisoner rights organizations announced the death of Asma Abu al-Haija, a former prisoner and wife of a prisoner serving a life sentence, after a long illness.
This came in a joint statement by the Palestine Liberation Organization's Commission of Prisoners' Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club. It was noted that Abu al-Haija was the mother of a martyr and the wife of a prisoner serving a life sentence, and that all of her children were languishing in Israeli prisons.
Abu Al-Haija, who was suffering from cancer, died at Istishari Hospital in Ramallah after a series of surgeries. She had previously been arrested in February 2003 and faced harsh conditions, including denial of medical treatment.
In parallel with the genocidal war in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli occupation army and settlers have escalated their attacks in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, resulting in the deaths of more than 962 Palestinians, the injury of approximately 7,000, and the arrest of more than 17,000, according to Palestinian data.
Since October 7, 2023, Tel Aviv, with US support, has been committing genocidal crimes in Gaza, leaving more than 172,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing.
For decades, Israel has occupied territories in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon, and refuses to withdraw from them and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, along the pre-1967 borders.
