After the Netherlands requested a review of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, Paris: It is a legitimate matter that we call for consideration.

This came during an interview, on Sunday, in a joint broadcast by France Inter, Le Monde, and France Info, regarding current issues.

Barro added that the Netherlands has asked the European Commission to examine whether the Tel Aviv government is respecting Article 2 of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, adding, "This is a legitimate request, and I call on the European Commission to examine it."

Asked whether these words meant that France supported a review of the agreement, Barrot said: "Let's see how the European Commission will assess whether Israel is complying with Article 2 of this agreement."

It is noteworthy that Article Two of the Partnership Agreement stipulates that relations between the two parties are based on "human rights."

The Association Agreement between the European Union and Israel was signed in Brussels on 20 November 1995 and entered into force on 1 June 2000, after being ratified by the parliaments of the EU member states, the European Parliament, and the Israeli Knesset.

The agreement stipulates the establishment of a "Partnership Council" supported by a "Partnership Committee" that will address several political, economic, social, and other areas.

Barrow's statement comes amid Israel's genocidal war against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, which includes killing, destruction, starvation, and forced displacement, in defiance of all international appeals.

The US-backed war has left more than 172,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing.
