The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee (LA28) has officially named two locations, namely the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Inglewood Stadium, as the venues for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The determination of these two locations maintains the plan that has been submitted since Los Angeles' nomination as host of the four-yearly sporting event in 2017. The organizers will make several updates according to adjustments to the competition schedule and operational needs.
"This arena will showcase the rich history and future of Los Angeles on the world stage," LA28 Organizing Committee Chairman Casey Wasserman said in a written statement on the LA28 website on Friday.
The opening ceremony of the Los Angeles Olympics is scheduled to take place on July 14, 2028 simultaneously at the Coliseum and Inglewood Stadium.
It will be the first time the ceremony will be held in two venues at once. The Coliseum will make history as the first stadium to host the Olympic ceremonies three times, after the 1932 and 1984 editions.
“The Coliseum will be part of Olympic history for the third time. It’s a great pride for our city,” said Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.
Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. also welcomed the decision, saying the stadium in Inglewood is one of the most modern in the world and will be an impressive opening venue.
