In a phone call with News Nation, Trump said, "There are potential trade agreements with these countries," adding, "I'm in less of a hurry than you are. They want us, and we don't need them."
In response to Americans' concerns about the repercussions of the tariffs, Trump said that "people can wait two weeks," indicating that the economic effects are temporary and can be contained.
In early April, Trump announced the imposition of "reciprocal" tariffs of at least 10% on all countries, as part of a policy aimed at reducing the US trade deficit.
On April 9, the US administration decided to suspend the application of these tariffs for 90 days on trading partners, excluding China, to open the way for negotiations on new trade agreements with countries willing to cooperate with Washington.
