UN and European criticism of Israel's "politicization" of Gaza aid and its use as a weapon against Palestinians.

Laerke said at the weekly press conference of the United Nations Office in Geneva on Tuesday that the Gaza Strip has not received aid for more than two months.

He pointed out that Tel Aviv plans to deliver aid to the Palestinians, subject to conditions set by the Israeli occupation army, if the crossings into the Gaza Strip, which has been plunged into a severe famine due to Israel's closure of all crossings into the Strip for 66 days, are reopened.

Laerke expressed the United Nations' rejection of the Israeli plan, which "does not conform to basic humanitarian principles such as neutrality and the independence of aid delivery."

He added, "What is being presented to UN agencies and civil society organizations is the exact opposite of what is required. It appears designed to increase control and restrict supplies. This is a deliberate attempt to weaponize humanitarian aid."

Israeli media previously reported that the government is working to have humanitarian aid enter Gaza via private American companies under the coordination of the Israeli military.

In the same context, European Union foreign policy chief Kaia Kallas said she informed Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar in a phone call that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is unbearable.

"Humanitarian aid must resume immediately and must never be politicized. The new aid delivery mechanism must be conducted through humanitarian actors," she added in a statement on the X website.

Israel has been blockading Gaza for 18 years, leaving approximately 1.5 million Palestinians out of a population of 2.4 million homeless after their homes were destroyed in the war of extermination. Gaza is suffering from famine due to Tel Aviv's closure of the crossings to humanitarian aid.
