PSSI General Chairman Erick Thohir said Indonesia will participate in the bidding to host the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Bidding will be conducted after Indonesia completes the third round of qualifying matches, where Indonesia will play the last two matches in June against China and Japan.
"We are applying to (host) the fourth round, we'll see later. Yes, we are also preparing for the fourth round, but we'll see the results in June first, if the results are full, we can rank 2, 3, 4," said Erick when met by media crews after the inauguration of the Garuda Academy and FIFA Arena Indonesia.
The fourth round, which will take place in October, will be contested by the teams that finished third and fourth in the third round.
Unlike the previous two rounds which used a home-away format, each country appearing in the fourth round only played one match in a centralized format.
The six teams in the fourth round are divided into two groups of three teams each. To qualify for the 2026 World Cup from the fourth round, each team must win their group.
