US sources: Trump met with an Israeli official and may announce a comprehensive solution that includes a ceasefire in the Gaza war by the end of the week.

The meeting took place at the White House and was not announced by the United States or Israel, according to Axios, which reported that Dermer met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday and held several meetings at the White House, including one with Trump.

In this context, the privately owned Hebrew newspaper Israel Hayom quoted three American and Arab officials as saying that "the likelihood of Trump announcing a comprehensive, long-term solution to the situation in Gaza, including a plan to end the war, is very high."

The officials, whose names were not mentioned by the newspaper, explained that this solution "is being developed with only partial Israeli participation and may not meet all of its demands." The officials stated that this solution "is in line with Trump's demands, including its reconstruction and management, with a pivotal US role in the Strip."

According to officials, Trump's plan includes "granting Hamas leadership guarantees of future participation in the civilian administration of the Gaza Strip and providing immunity for the movement's leaders from targeting." The plan also includes "integrating the police forces of the Hamas government into Palestinian security forces responsible for maintaining order, and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli military forces from the Gaza Strip, coinciding with Hamas's surrender of its weapons."

But officials pointed out that a major obstacle to the plan's implementation is "Hamas' refusal to disarm."

Hamas repeatedly declared that "the withdrawal of the resistance (from Gaza) or its disarmament is unacceptable," and stressed that "any arrangements for the future of the Strip will be based on national consensus."

Officials claimed to the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom that several Arab countries, led by Egypt and the Palestinian Authority, are pressuring Hamas' leadership to accept the potential US deal, fearing a major Israeli military operation following Trump's visit to the Gulf states.

The newspaper asserted that Tel Aviv, on the other hand, is concerned about becoming "a secondary player in Gaza, or even out of the game in the worst case," as happened with the recent ceasefire agreement between Washington and the Houthis, of which it was not informed.

The announcement of this plan coincides with the revelation by Israeli Army Radio correspondent Yanni Kozin on Thursday that Trump has decided to cut off contact with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, citing suspicions that the latter is manipulating him.

On Wednesday, President Trump said that his country had held numerous discussions regarding Gaza, and that what was happening would be revealed "likely within the next 24 hours."

Trump said on Tuesday that he would make a "very important" announcement regarding the region before his Middle East tour, which begins on May 13. Since the start of his new presidential term on January 20, 2025, Trump has offered diverse and unlimited support to the Netanyahu government, which has been waging a genocidal war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.

Trump also made sure to welcome Netanyahu to the White House, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians in Gaza.

In early March, the first phase of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement between Hamas and Israel, which had been in effect since January 19, ended. However, Israel reneged on the agreement and resumed its genocide on the 18th of the same month.
