Indonesia's mixed doubles debut, Verrell Yustin Mulia/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati, had to stop early at the BWF World Tour Super 300 Taiwan Open 2025 after losing two straight games 8-21, 13-21 to Japanese representatives Yuichi Shimogami/Sayaka Hobara at the Taipei Arena, Taiwan.
Verrell/Lisa, who were just paired in this tournament, seemed unable to match the aggressive play of the world's 35th ranked pair.
Shimogami/Hobara, who last week defended Japan in the 2025 Sudirman Cup, appeared more dominant from the start of the match.
The first game belonged to the Japanese pair who appeared to press and actively open attacks. In contrast, Verrell/Lisa often got caught in a defensive game pattern and relied on placing balls that were easy for their opponents to anticipate.
In the second game, Verrell/Lisa tried to rise but still had difficulty getting out of the pressure. The solid rotation of the game from Shimogami/Hobara made the Indonesian pair have trouble breaking down the opponent's defense.
