Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka inspected the condition of Pasar Baru Indramayu, West Java, morning, to ensure the availability and stability of staple food prices in the area.
During the visit, the Vice President was accompanied by the Deputy Governor of West Java Erwan Setiawan, the Regent of Indramayu Lucky Hakim, and the Deputy Regent of Indramayu Syaefudin.
From ANTARA's monitoring, the Vice President and his entourage arrived at Pasar Baru Indramayu at around 09.00 WIB. His arrival was greeted enthusiastically by residents and traders who filled the market area since morning.
Gibran was seen walking along the market aisle and stopping at several stalls to chat with traders.
During the visit, the Vice President took the time to buy a number of vegetables and listen to the complaints and hopes of traders regarding the condition of the market.
The Vice President's presence in the middle of the market was used by residents to shake hands and capture the moment using their cellphone cameras.
Deputy Regent of Indramayu Syaefudin said that the results of his review with the Vice President showed that the price of basic necessities was still in a stable category ahead of Eid al-Adha 1446 Hijriah.
According to him, main commodities such as beef, vegetables and other daily necessities did not show significant price spikes.
"The price of local meat is currently still Rp130 thousand per kilogram, while imported meat is around Rp70 thousand to Rp90 thousand. This is still within normal limits," he said.
He also ensured the availability of food stocks in the market, sufficient to meet the needs of the community in facing religious holidays.
In addition to monitoring prices, said Syaefudin, the Vice President also highlighted the physical conditions at the Indramayu New Market.
He said the market was last relocated in 1994 and until now, it has never been completely revitalized.
"There has been no update for quite some time. Therefore, we are currently preparing the Detail Engineering Design (DED) to revitalize this market," said Syaefudin.
He said that market revitalization was a priority in the regional development agenda to improve the comfort of traders and visitors, as well as support the smooth running of community economic activities.
