Al-Busaidi said, "The fifth round of Iranian-American talks concluded in Rome with some progress, but not conclusive." He added, " We hope to clarify the remaining issues in the coming days, allowing progress toward reaching a sustainable agreement."
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that the fifth round of nuclear talks in Rome with the United States had concluded, while Axios reported, citing US officials, that the fifth round of talks would end "in three hours."
"We have just concluded one of the most professional rounds of negotiations," Araqchi added after the conclusion of the fifth round of talks between the United States and Iran.
Araghchi said there was potential for progress in the nuclear talks with the United States after Oman, the mediator in the negotiations, presented several proposals, adding that the talks were complex and required further discussion.
The Iranian delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, while the US delegation was headed by President Donald Trump's envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.
Italian security forces imposed strict security measures in and around the negotiating venue, while two individuals demonstrated outside the venue against the Tehran administration.
Tehran and Washington continue negotiations on the nuclear issue, with Iran seeking to lift sanctions in exchange for limiting some of its nuclear activities, without infringing on its right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff previously told ABC News that "uranium enrichment is a very clear red line for the Trump administration. We cannot allow it because enrichment enables weaponization."
On Tuesday, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei stressed that Iran is not waiting for permission from "anyone" to enrich uranium, expressing doubt that talks with the United States will lead to "any result."
It's worth noting that the United States previously hinted at the possibility of accepting low-level enrichment from Iran, but its recent stance indicates a more stringent stance on this issue, amid divergent positions between the two sides.
On May 11, a fourth round of negotiations between Iran and the United States concluded in the Sultanate of Oman. While Tehran described the round as "difficult but useful," Washington deemed it "encouraging."
These developments come amid a prolonged stalemate in nuclear negotiations between Iran and Western powers since Washington's withdrawal from the agreement in 2018, amid repeated attempts by both sides to revive it under new conditions.
