Wolfgang Pikal optimistic PFA can achieve success in Gothia Cup

Papua Football Academy (PFA) Director Wolfgang Pikal is optimistic that PFA can achieve success in its first participation in the 2025 Gothia Cup tournament in Sweden.

This was stated by Pikal when met by the media crew at the signing of the MoU between PT SKF Industrial Indonesia (SKF) and PT Freeport Indonesia Monday.

"This PFA team has been together for almost a year, we are optimistic that we can achieve success in Sweden," said Pikal.

The former assistant coach of the Indonesian national team during the Alfred Riedl era said that ahead of participating in the tournament which will be played on July 13-19, his team will hold a number of trial matches in Jakarta.

"God willing, we will face strong teams like Asiana, Asiop, those classes," he explained.

PFA will appear for the first time in Gothia Cup and for that Pikal has strengthened the mentality of his players long ago. "We instill in them a very good character, representing the children of Papua, representing Freeport, representing Indonesian people well abroad. For example, if we can bring a medal from there, it's extraordinary, but if not, we can gain experience," he said.

Meanwhile, PFA received full support from SKF in the Gothia Cup, after the signing of the MoU between SKF and PTFI.
