Low-cost airline AirAsia officially serves flight routes from Phuket, Thailand to Medan, Indonesia, round trip with Thai AirAsia aircraft.
"Today's inaugural flight on the Phuket-Medan route is carrying 117 passengers," said Kualanamu Indonesia AirAsia Station Manager Benjamin Hasianto Siahaan at Kualanamu Deli Serdang International Airport, North Sumatra, Friday.
Meanwhile, the Medan - Phuket route, he continued, was recorded as carrying 173 passengers using an AirAsia aircraft, an Airbus A320 with a capacity of 180 seats.
This flight route is served four times a week every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, taking off from Phuket International Airport at 14.50 Thailand time, and Kualanamu International Airport at 16.50 WIB.
The inaugural Phuket - Medan flight was marked by a special welcome for passengers from Phuket at Kualanamu International Airport in collaboration with Thai AirAsia with flight code FD and Kualanamu International Airport.
"We are grateful for the high enthusiasm of the public towards this new route. Hopefully, with the presence of this Phuket - Medan route, AirAsia can encourage the growth of the tourism sector and connectivity between the two beautiful destinations," he explained.
As previously conveyed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, said Benjamin, cooperation between the two countries continues to be strengthened.
One of them is the opening of this new flight route to strengthen the international network in the ASEAN region, then encourage connectivity and tourism between the two cities full of cultural charm.
"We believe that this route will not only connect two cities, but also strengthen the relationship between the two nations," said Benjamin.
Tansita Akrarittipirom, Head of Commercial Thai AirAsia, said in a written statement that passenger enthusiasm was evident in the launch of this new route.
