Indonesian women's tennis player Aldila Sutjiadi managed to overcome pressure from her opponent in the first round of the Nottingham Open grass court doubles tournament in England, Wednesday.
Aldila, who is partnered with Japan's Eri Hozumi, defeated Norwegian/Japanese pair Ulrikke Eikeri/Makoto Ninomiya 6-1, 2-6, 10-7 to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 event.
"Yes, of course we are very happy to be able to win the first round in Nottingham," said Aldila.
In the first set, Aldila/Eri played very dominantly with only one game conceded. However, they were unable to overcome the opponent's resistance in the second set when Eikeri/Ninomiya rose to equalize.
"Earlier in the first set we played very well, and also maybe it was the first time our opponents paired up and played on a grass court, so maybe they hadn't adjusted to the grass court, so in the first set we played very well, we didn't make many mistakes," said Aldila.
