Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight (120.2 kg) fighter Jailton Almeida immediately called for a fight against Tom Aspinall, who was recently crowned heavyweight champion after Jon Jones retired from the UFC.
"I'm the only one left, and I'm the one who challenged him (Aspinall to fight)," said Jailton Almeida in a report on the MMA Fighting website monitored.
Almeida said he was shocked but also delighted when UFC CEO Dana White announced that UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones was retiring from the sport, which resulted in Tom Aspinall being named undisputed heavyweight champion.
The decision opens up a huge gap in the heavyweight division and "Malhadinho" hopes it can lead to a title fight with Aspinall.
Almeida defeated Alexandr Romanov and Serghei Spivac in his most recent appearances, both of whom scored consecutive first-round finishes to bounce back from the first losses of his UFC career.
Other names currently ranked above him on the official UFC roster include Ciryl Gane, Alexander Volkov, Sergei Pavlovich, and Curtis Blaydes.
