Bayern Munich showed no mercy against their modest opponents, New Zealand's Auckland City, defeating them 10-0 on Sunday, achieving the biggest win in the history of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Bayern finished the first half leading with six goals, scored by Kingsley Coman (two goals), Sacha Boey, Michael Olise (two goals), and Thomas Muller in the 6th, 18th, 20th, 21st, 45th, and 45+3rd minutes.
In the second half, Jamal Musiala scored a hat-trick in the 67th, 73rd, and 84th minutes, while Thomas Müller concluded the scoring in the 90th minute.
With this sweeping victory, the German team achieved the biggest victory in the history of the Club World Cup.
Bayern's match against Auckland became the highest-scoring match in the history of the tournament after surpassing the previous record (8 goals), which was achieved three times. The first was in the 2008 edition when Manchester United beat Japan's Gamba Osaka 5-3, the second was Tunisia's Esperance's 6-2 victory over Qatar's Al Sadd in the 2019 edition, and the third was Real Madrid's 5-3 victory over Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal in the 2022 edition final.
With this sweeping victory, Bayern Munich tops Group C of the Club World Cup, which is being held for the first time with 32 teams participating and is being hosted by the United States until July 14.
Bayern will face Boca Juniors and Benfica in the second and third rounds on June 21 and 24, while Auckland have already put their foot down and need a near-miracle in the next two rounds to avoid a first-round exit.
