Contrary to Witkoff's proposal, Trump confirms that Iran will not be allowed to enrich uranium under any agreement.

Trump and Steve Witkoff, who is leading the negotiations on behalf of the United States, have repeatedly publicly delivered conflicting messages regarding whether Iran will be allowed to retain the ability to enrich uranium at low levels for civilian purposes. The Trump administration maintains that it will not allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon.

Trump portrayed the negotiations as the best opportunity for both countries to avoid a direct military conflict over Iran's nuclear program. Tehran, which denies seeking a nuclear weapon, insists it will not agree to any agreement that requires it to completely scrap its enrichment program.

Trump wrote on social media: "As part of our potential agreement, we will not allow any uranium enrichment."

Trump's remarks come after media reports that Witkoff's latest proposal to Tehran would allow it to maintain low-level enrichment for civilian purposes such as nuclear medicine and electricity generation, if it agreed to close its fortified underground sites for a period of time.

The United States and Iran have held several rounds of direct nuclear talks, the first of their kind in years.
