Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said that the Presidential Instruction on efforts to accelerate the development of Indonesia's outermost island in Bengkulu Province, Enggano Island, was signed by President Prabowo Subianto because the problems on the island needed to be handled quickly.
According to him, solving the island's problems requires the role of the central government. Because, he said, the people on the outermost island have been experiencing problems with sea transportation for about a month.
"Therefore, handling needs to be fast and requires the central government to intervene," said Dasco when contacted.
He explained that the Indonesian House of Representatives had received complaints from the Enggano community regarding obstacles to sea transportation due to the shallowing of the port which had isolated the community. According to him, Indonesian House of Representatives Member Rieke Diah Pitaloka had also gone down to the field to review the problem.
After that, he and the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, communicated with President Prabowo Subianto to convey the problems on Enggano Island.
From coordination with the President, according to him, the government has also divided tasks between a number of ministries to resolve the problem.
"To act as an umbrella, the Presidential Instruction was signed by Mr. Prabowo," he said.
Previously, the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto signed a Presidential Instruction (Inpres) on efforts to accelerate the development of Indonesia's outermost island in Bengkulu Province, Enggano Island.
"Now I am signing the Presidential Instruction to accelerate the smooth development in Enggano. Bismillahirrahmanirrahim," said President Prabowo.
