Kyiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said 17 drones struck two residential areas in the city.

Emergency crews, municipal workers, and volunteers worked throughout the night to extinguish the fires, rescue residents from burning homes, and restore gas, electricity, and water services.

"These are normal places of peaceful life, places that should never be targeted," Terekhov added on Telegram.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced in a statement that 64 people had been infected, renewing his calls for increased international pressure on Moscow.

"Every new day now brings new vile Russian attacks, and almost every strike has its own implications," Zelenskyy said.

He stressed: "We must not fear or postpone new decisions that could make things more difficult for Russia. Otherwise, they will not engage in real diplomacy. This depends primarily on the United States and other world leaders. Everyone who has called for an end to the killings and for diplomacy must act."

Earlier on Wednesday, during a Ukraine-Southeastern Europe summit in Odessa, Zelensky accused Russia of "pursuing broader territorial ambitions in Europe than it publicly acknowledges."

He added, "Russia's war plans point to this region (Odessa) and then toward the borders with Moldova and Romania," stressing that Moscow "seeks to spread chaos in the region to weaken all of Europe."

He believed that Russia's goals extend beyond Ukraine, saying, "The Kremlin has inflamed ethnic tensions in the Balkans, interfered in elections in Romania, and is trying to regain influence over former Soviet republics like Moldova."

He warned that if pro-Russian forces win Moldova's parliamentary elections next September, it could encourage Moscow to deepen its interference in other European countries.

The Odessa summit was held to coordinate regional support for Ukraine and address broader security concerns.

Zelenskyy renewed his call for more powerful air defenses and political support for his country, including support for Ukraine's bid to join the European Union.

Since February 24, 2022, Russia has launched a military attack on its neighbor, Ukraine, and has stipulated that it must abandon its membership in Western military entities as a condition for ending the offensive. Kiev considers this to be "interference" in its affairs.
