The Israeli army radio reported: "Forces from the Alexandretta Brigade carried out an operation last night in the village of Beit Jann in southern Syria, about 10 kilometers from the Israeli border."
She added, "The forces arrested a number of Syrians (she did not specify their number) on suspicion of involvement in terrorism," according to her statement.
Earlier on Thursday, Syrian news websites quoted local sources as saying that "a young man was martyred by Israeli occupation forces in the town of Beit Jann in the western Damascus countryside, after being directly shot by an Israeli army force that penetrated at dawn into the villages of Mount Hermon adjacent to the occupied Golan Heights."
The sources added that "Israeli occupation forces arrested seven young men during a campaign of raids and arrests in Beit Jann, also at dawn today."
The sources indicated that "the martyr was killed by direct gunfire from the occupation forces, and his uncle was arrested."
She pointed out that "the Israeli occupation forces penetrated the town of Beit Jann at dawn."
She added that "the sounds of Israeli vehicles, armored vehicles, and tanks were heard, along with the sounds of aircraft and drones accompanying the Israeli incursion," and that "the Israeli military point launched from the Nafl district in northern Quneitra and northwest of the town of Hader, and from the Al-Tulul Al-Hamr point, which is controlled by the occupation army, towards the town of Beit Jann."
On Wednesday, the Quneitra Governorate in western Syria announced that the Israeli occupation army had detained "a vehicle and three sanitation workers affiliated with the Quneitra City Council near the town of Al-Qahtaniyah in the western Quneitra countryside."
On June 4, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani stated that Damascus was not seeking war with Israel and renewed the call for implementation of the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement.
On December 8, 2024, Israel announced the collapse of the agreement, and its army occupied the demilitarized buffer zone in the occupied Golan Heights in southwestern Syria.
The Separation of Forces Agreement (Disengagement) was signed between Israel and Syria on May 31, 1974, ending the October 6, 1973 War and the period of attrition that followed on the Syrian front.
The agreement stipulated Israel's withdrawal from all areas of Mount Hermon that it had occupied in the war, in addition to approximately 25 square kilometers, including the area surrounding the city of Quneitra and other small areas that it had occupied in the June 5, 1967 war.
This agreement defines the current borders between Israel and Syria and the accompanying military arrangements, and two dividing lines were established, the Israeli (in blue) and the Syrian (in red).
Between the two lines is a buffer zone exceeding 75 km in length, with a width ranging from 10 km in the center to 200 meters in the far south. A United Nations force known as UNDOF has been patrolling the buffer zone since 1974.
Although the new Syrian administration has not threatened Israel, Israel has launched airstrikes on Syria since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime, killing civilians and destroying Syrian military sites, vehicles, and ammunition.
