Due to Houthi missiles, Alitalia and Lufthansa extend suspension of flights to Israel.

This comes amid ongoing security threats related to the launching of missiles from Yemen toward Israel, for which the Houthi group has claimed responsibility.

The group, which includes Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and German airline Eurowings, said in a statement on its website that it has decided to continue suspending its flights to Tel Aviv until June 22.

Similarly, Alitalia announced on its website that it has extended the suspension for the same period.

In recent weeks, several international airlines have announced the suspension of flights to and from Tel Aviv, following missiles fired by the Houthi group from Yemen toward Israel in protest against the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip.

With each missile launched from Yemen, air traffic is temporarily disrupted at Ben Gurion International Airport, near Tel Aviv.

On May 4, a missile launched from Yemen landed near Ben Gurion Airport, according to Israeli authorities, raising concerns among foreign airlines.

In an update on the current status of the suspension of international flights to Israel, the privately owned Hebrew newspaper Israel Hayom reported on Tuesday that United Airlines has extended its suspension of flights until June 5, while the Dutch low-cost carrier Transavia is expected to resume flights on June 3, and Latvian Air Baltic on June 6.

The newspaper added that Spanish airline Iberia Express flights will remain suspended until June 30, and Air India flights until June 18, while British airline EasyJet has postponed the resumption of its flights until the end of June.

Irish carrier Ryanair and British Airways have postponed their return to service until July 31, Air Seychelles has extended its flight suspension until the end of the same month, and Air Canada has postponed the resumption of flights until September 2025.

Meanwhile, some airlines have resumed flights to Israel, including Delta Air Lines, Aegean Airlines, Air France, KLM, and Ethiopian Airlines.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with full American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, leaving more than 178,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, more than 11,000 missing, and hundreds of thousands displaced.
