The Spanish Defense Ministry suspends the contract to purchase an anti-tank missile system from an Israeli company.

Spanish media reported on Tuesday, citing official sources, that the ministry had decided to suspend the contract announced on October 3, 2023, valued at approximately €285 million, awarded to PAB Technos, the Spanish subsidiary of Israeli defense company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.

Last week, Spain's Minister of State for Defense, Amparo Valcarce, said the government was working on plans to avoid any dependence on Israel.

Under the contract with Bab Technos, approximately €285 million has been allocated over five years to equip ground and naval infantry units with Spike LR2 missiles.

On May 20, the Spanish Parliament passed a recommendation calling for a ban on military contracts with Israel, citing Tel Aviv's alleged genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Parliament is expected to vote in the coming days on a bill banning arms supplies to Israel in Spain.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with absolute American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, leaving more than 178,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands displaced.
