In a post on Truth Social, Trump threatened to suspend US aid to Israel over Netanyahu's continued trial, saying, "The United States spends billions of dollars a year, far more than any other country, to protect and support Israel. We will not tolerate this."
Trump described the Israeli prime minister as a "war hero" in another post on Truth Social, and argued that his trial was distracting him from sensitive issues, such as negotiations with Iran and Hamas. He said, "This travesty of justice will interfere with those negotiations," without clarifying the nature of the contacts or the details of those negotiations.
Trump pointed to similarities between Netanyahu's prosecution and his own personal issues, describing it as a "political witch hunt," similar to what he said he faced shortly before winning a second presidential term.
Trump was convicted in May 2024 on 34 counts of falsifying business records in a hush-money case involving a porn star. He also faces two federal lawsuits, one of which stems from his attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
An Israeli court on Friday rejected Netanyahu's request to postpone his testimony in the ongoing corruption cases against him, deeming the request "lacking a basis and detailed justification for canceling the hearings."
Netanyahu faces charges in three cases, including that he and his wife, Sara, received lavish gifts from wealthy individuals in exchange for political favors, valued at more than $260,000, as well as his alleged attempts to secure favorable media coverage from two Israeli news organizations. Netanyahu denies all charges against him.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and displacement, ignoring international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.
The genocide left more than 189,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands were displaced, and a famine claimed the lives of many, including children.
