Iranian state television reported that the attack targeted the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, while the Iranian news agency IRNA reported another missile attack on a US base in Iraq, without providing further details.
The attack was announced via an official broadcast featuring military music, and was described as "a strong and successful response by the Iranian armed forces to America's aggression."
In turn, Iran's Supreme National Security Council said in a statement: " In response to the aggressive and blatant US action against Iranian nuclear sites and facilities, the Iranian armed forces targeted the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar."
The statement added, "The number of missiles used in this successful operation is equal to the number of bombs used by the United States in its attack on Iranian nuclear facilities."
The Council stated that the base targeted in the Iranian forces' attack was far from urban facilities and residential areas in Qatar, and that "this action does not pose any threat to our friendly and brotherly country, Qatar, or its generous people. The Islamic Republic of Iran remains committed to preserving and continuing its friendly and historical relations with Qatar."
Following the attack, Qatar strongly condemned what it described as a "flagrant violation of its sovereignty and airspace," stressing that it reserves the right to respond in a manner proportionate to the "scale and nature of this attack," according to a statement issued by Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari.
Al-Ansari explained that "Qatari air defenses successfully repelled the Iranian attack," noting that "there were no injuries or human losses," as the base had been evacuated in advance in accordance with established precautionary measures.
He added, "The continuation of such escalating military actions threatens regional security and stability and could drag the region into dire consequences," calling for an immediate cessation of military action and a return to the negotiating table.
As of Monday evening, there had been no official comment from the United States regarding the Iranian attacks.
