Iraqi media reported that local authorities in the city of Fallujah in Anbar province closed the "Viking" restaurant after more than 30 cases of food poisoning were recorded among customers.
A medical source said, "The injured were admitted to Fallujah General Hospital and received the necessary treatment."
He added, "Initial investigations revealed indications of the use of meat unfit for human consumption."
For its part, the Health Control Division of the Fallujah Public Health Department confirmed the closure of a fast-food outlet following the recording of 40 cases of food poisoning, which were transferred to the emergency room of Fallujah Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Abdul-Azim, Director of the Health Control Division, said in a statement that "the inspection teams are directly following up on the case, and the necessary legal action will be taken against the violating entity if it is proven that there was a defect or negligence in implementing public health and safety standards."
