Makassar City Government, South Sulawesi, revised the Makassar Mayor's Regulation and issued Mayoral Regulation Number 13 of 2025 concerning the Review of Cleaning Service Fees, which were previously fully paid, now free for the poor.
Makassar Mayor Munafri Arifuddin during the launch at Car Free Day Makassar, Sunday, emphasized the government's commitment to begin transforming waste management gradually and fairly.
"This mayoral regulation will come into effect next month (July). We will first look at several areas (sub-districts) while ensuring that the recipient household data is valid, especially households with 450–900 VA electricity capacity," he said.
Munafri Arifuddin said that the policy was a real manifestation of the Munafri-Aliyah pair's commitment to easing the economic burden on low-income residents, while strengthening fairer and more equitable public services.
He stated that households with 450 VA and 900 VA electricity connections will enjoy cleaning services free of charge.
"This step not only answers the aspirations of residents who have been burdened by retribution fees, but also reflects the vision of Jalan Pengabdian Mulia which sides with poor community groups, in line with the spirit of developing a cleaner, healthier, and more equitable city," he said.
