Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer remains optimistic that his team will continue to advance in the Club World Cup despite just suffering its first defeat against Benfica with a score of 0-1 in the final match of Group C at the Bank of America Stadium, North Carolina.
Bayern were defeated after a solid first-half display from Benfica, who produced three shots on target, including Andreas Schjelderup's goal in the 13th minute.
Neuer remained positive about his team because after conceding in the first half, the team played better in the second half, but it was still not enough to equalize or win the match because the four shots they had were all saved by goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin.
"Honestly, I feel positive because of the second half and what we achieved as a team, how we created chances. If we can play for 90 minutes with this tempo and how we created chances, I feel positive for this tournament," said the 39-year-old goalkeeper, as quoted from the official FIFA website, Wednesday.
When asked how he fared against the 16-year-younger goalkeeper, Neuer said: "Trubin is a great goalkeeper today and he played very well. We missed the situation where Harry (Kane) was offside, it was a great shot from Joshua (Kimmich), but all these little things and details created the defeat."
